We offer a variety of counseling services to meet the unique needs of our clients, including individual therapy, couples counseling, and group therapy. We also offer specialized services for issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, and much more.

As a resident of the Clear Lake/NASA area for over 50 years, Dinah Parker Matthews has a deep connection to the community and a commitment to making emotional and mental wellness available to all who seek it. Her Christian faith led her to seek a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University (CCU), which was followed by her service as a Licensed Professional Counselor – Associate at Second Baptist Church Houston. Dinah works with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, stress, life transitions, or relationship challenges. She counsels with adolescents, adults, individuals, couples, and those who want more out of their relationships or are experiencing stress, betrayal, or estrangment. She has been trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and uses Gottman techniques and materials in her couples counseling sessions.
Dr. Mark Mayfield is a former pastor, award winning author, speaker, leadership coach, counselor, and professor. He has extensive experience in mental and emotional health consulting with schools and faith-based organizations. He is founder of No Student Unseen, which helps schools navigate their mental health challenges with the Stop Light Alert for Mental and Emotional Wellness system. Clinically, Dr. Mayfield is an expert in working with families affected by trauma. He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at CCU and also partners with the AACC as the Director of Practice and Ministry Development and Editor of Marriage & Family: A Christian Journal.
Dr. Mayfield is the author of four books, “HELP! My Teen is Self-Injuring: A Crisis Manual for Parents” which addresses his own suicide survival story, and provides practical tools to help your child who may be struggling, “The Path Out of Loneliness: Finding and Fostering Connection to God, Ourselves and One Another”, “The Path To Wholeness: Managing Emotions, Finding Healing, and Becoming Our Best Selves” and “Hope and Healing for Loneliness: A Guide to Flourish in Community” (which comes out next month).
He has been featured in prominent media outlets including FOX NEWS, Woman’s Day, Hello Giggles, NBC, Reader’s Digest, Byrdie, and more. Dr. Mayfield is on a list of mental health professionals that was invited to the White House in December 2019 and has had periodic calls with the White House to discuss mental health in America.
Dr. Mayfield is currently working on research in and Veterans, and in Social Justice and the church.
Dr. Mayfield lives in Texas with his wife of 15 years and their three children.

Christine Foster is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been providing mental health services for children, adults, and families across Galveston Bay in both non-profit and private practice capacities for the last five years. She has a passion for making mental health services readily available to anyone who may be struggling, and is so excited for the opportunity to further that passion through the important work of Nova Vita.
Experiencing firsthand the positive impact of faith integrated professional counseling, Randy Miller seeks to improve the mental and emotional wellbeing of every individual in any community he serves. Randy has served as a Lutheran pastor in New York City, Nashville, Detroit, and Houston. With over 20 years of training in the “best in class” strategic planning tools, Randy provides visionary and strategic leadership to every church and nonprofit he serves. Randy has demonstrated experience in advancing the vision of community transformation through mental and emotional wellness. He accomplishes this by building community partnerships, expanding mental health services and increasing donor engagement.
Richard Zalesak is a Senior Development Officer with University of Houston-Clear Lake. He has extensive leadership experience in nonprofit and faith-based organizations. Richard is a retired Episcopal Church pastor and holds degrees from University of St. Thomas, Virginia Theological Seminary, and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He is married to Meredith Uher Zalesak and they have two grown children and one daughter-in-law. Richard volunteers with Nova Vita Mental Wellness Center to help address the urgent need for counseling services in our community.
As a member of Gloria Dei and a Mental Health Professional for over 35 years, Dawn Petersen brings her commitment to serving others through her Christian faith and advocacy for mental wellness to Nova Vita. Fueled by her experience in national program development, she is focused on bringing quality services to the Clear Lake community. She currently serves individuals throughout the nation in her role at Change Through Transition.
